About / Additional Info: | The 91st Judicial District Court is a trial court of general subject-matter jurisdiction. Generally, this jurisdiction includes original jurisdiction of felony criminal prosecutions, suits for divorce, suits over title to land, election contests, and civil suits with an amount in controversy of at least $200. The 91st District Court hears contested probate cases and has original jurisdiction over all cases for which a remedy or jurisdiction is not provided by law or by the Constitution. The Court has the power to issue writs of habeas corpus, attachment, garnishment, and all writs necessary to enforce its jurisdiction. Appeals from judgments of the 91st District Court are sent to the Eleventh Court of Appeals, except those capital offense cases in which the death penalty has been assessed, which are appealed directly to the Court of Criminal Appeals. |
